Phillies first basemen Ryan Howard
underwent a procedure to clear an infection in his surgically repaired Achilles
tendon. Dr. Mark Myerson performed the procedure in Baltimore on Monday.
Athletic trainer Scott Sheridan said the tendon was still intact.
The
Phillies are not sure when Howard will be back on the field, as he missed his
fourth straight day of workouts today. As of right now, the Phillies are not
calling this a setback in Howard’s recovery.
Howard’s
infection is not something that is uncommon and it was very good news to hear
that his Achilles is still intact.
When
Howard returns, the Phillies are going to be extremely careful with him. The
last thing they want to do is aggravate his already injured Achilles.
