Temple University will join the Big
East for the upcoming football season and in all other sports for the 2013
season. The board of trustees made the decision after a conference call. The
football program will leave the Mid-American Conference and the basketball team
will leave the Atlantic 10 Conference.
The move was made possible by West
Virginia making the move from the Big East to the Big 12. Seven teams have
joined the Big East over the last couple months, as teams such as Pittsburgh
and Syracuse plan to leave the conference.
With Villanova already in the Big
East for basketball, Philadelphia will have another school to cheer for in the
conference. Temple will regularly play powerhouses such as Georgetown, Notre
Dame and Connecticut in basketball.
The Owls basketball team is currently
the number one seed for the A-10 tournament and will face Massachusetts on
Friday in Atlantic City at noon.
